Years ago I heard a radio talk show host in Boston make the observation that "the real world is so much more interesting." I completely concur. As such you will never, ever catch me reading a novel. In some ways I am sure that I am a bit poorer for that but my passion has always been nonfiction. So many interesting topics and such little time! I enjoy a wide variety of nonfiction genres including history, politics, biographies, books about disasters and occasionally a book about science or medicine. There are times when I struggle with terminology when reading about subjects I am not very well versed in but how else does one expand his/her horizons? I have been writing reviews on Amazon for more than a decade now. Often I am asked by authors and publishers to read and review new books. If I am even remotely interested in the topic I am usually happy to do it. After all, writers want people to read what they have written. Given the sad state of television these days I would much rather spend my time reading. I just wish I could stay awake later at night! I would describe myself as conservative on the major social issues but I sometimes part company with Republicans on environmental matters.
As a collector of popular music for more than 50 years I also enjoy reviewing CD's. I particularly enjoy reviewing "anthologies" and I have a huge collection of CD'S, LP'S and 45's. My collection includes a great many genres including rock and roll, soul, country, R&B, big band and easy listening. I have a great many reference books on popular music as well and I try to incorporate some biographical information and Billboard chart data into my reviews whenever possible.
I get a kick out of getting the occasional e-mail from someone who has read one or more of my reviews or from the author of a book that I might have reviewed. I find that reviewing is a very rewarding pastime and lots of fun to boot!!
My wife Molly and Ihave been happily married for 28 years. We are both native Rhode Islanders. As you might expect we are huge Red Sox fans and were thrilled when they won the World Series in 2004, 2007 and once again in 2013. Molly and I don't find too much to watch on TV these days. We much prefer to watch old movies from the 1940's and 50's. We also enjoy the great outdoors.
